There's no better way to celebrate the annual Batman Day in September than by reading some of the greatest Batman comics ever created.

In the 83 years since Bill Finger and Bob Kane first created the character in Detective Comics #27, Batman has been a household name. With hundreds of movie, video game, and television appearances, the hero has become a cultural phenomenon and one of the most recognizable superheroes of all time, earning the character his own annual day of celebration.

However, none of this would have been possible without amazing stories published in DC Comics. Over the years Batman has battled aliens, sewer zombies, vampires, and mobsters. To celebrate Batman Day on September 17th, fans are taking a look at some of their favorite Batman comic runs and miniseries that defined the character.


10/10 I Am Batman Develops A New Batman

Fans know all too well how Bruce lost his parents in Crime Alley. However, while this is an important aspect of his origin, his true transformation began when he became an adult. Batman: Year One tells a story of the man becoming the bat and how he introduces himself to the crime-ridden city of Gotham.

While there are other Batman origin stories, Year One doesn't feel like a typical Batman comic. Written by Frank Miller, penciled by David Mazzucchelli, and colored by Richmond Lewis, the story is almost cinematic thanks to its stunning artwork, and is an essential read for any Batman fan.
