While the show bore seasons-long overarching plots, many episodes were dedicated to a one-off monster for Sam and Dean to face. It was hard to predict what would happen, as monster of the week episodes could be frightening, funny, or upsetting. No matter the tone, however, some monster of the week episodes remain a delight for viewers.
It’s not often that one of the brothers is left to solve a case on their own, but that’s exactly what happens to Sam during this season three episode. "Time Is On My Side" begins with an older case that happened nearly two hundred years ago.
Sam investigates an absurd event when a young man arrives at the hospital with a missing liver after surviving a strange kidnapping. Sam soon finds records of Dr. Benton, a surgeon from 1816, who had become obsessed with the idea of immortality. In the episode's strange twist on Frankenstein, Dr. Benton achieved eternal life by replacing his body parts with newer ones, making himself both the modern Prometheus and his creation.
