The World of Westeros is growing with numerous Game of Thrones spinoffs in development.

A Song of Ice and Fire boasts one of the deepest worlds in the fantasy genre. George R.R. Martin's story of monarchs, families, death, and dragons has captured the imagination of readers and television viewers since its original novel was published in 1996. The intense popularity of its television adaptation, Game of Thrones, and the world surrounding it has proven to endure a controversial endgame that outpaced Martin's writing of the final two books in the core story.

Martin and HBO are continuing their partnership by expanding the "World of Westeros" universe through what Martin prefers to call "successor shows." These successor shows are productions based on established lore and uncharted territory that has yet to be fully explored in world-building material. It's worth noting that there's no guarantee they will all see the light of day, and other presently unknown successor shows may take their place. However, one clear thing is that fans won't be leaving the World of Westeros anytime soon.

Throughout A Song of Ice and Fire, citizens of Westeros have put on stage plays reenacting historical moments past, present, and speculative. So it only seems fitting that a successor show would follow suit.

A planned stage play for broadway would be based around the Great Tourney at Harrenhal. Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, heir to the Iron Throne, won a jousting tournament. After his victory, Prince Rhaegar gave the ceremonial crown of the Queen of Love and Beauty to Lyanna Stark, Ned Stark's sister and Robert Baratheon's betrothed, instead of his wife, Princess Elia Martell. This set off a chain of events that led to Robert's Rebellion, and the overthrowing of the Targaryen's reign over Westeros.
