The Street Fighter series ushered in the '90s fight game craze. Metacritic has reviews for a surprising number of titles in this venerable series.

Street Fighter is one of the longest-running video game series in existence, with its first installment coming out all the way back in 1987. Plenty of Street Fighter games have premiered since, and the series doesn't seem to be slowing down, with Street Fighter 6 set to release in 2023.

As with any series, not all Street Fighter games are created equal, so review sites like Metacritic can help fans determine which games from the series to try out. While not every installment was reviewed on the site, especially the older titles from the 90s, Metacritic still has a lot of information on the venerable game franchise.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 is the highest-rated '90s Street Fighter game on Metacritic with a 93 critic score and 8.5 user score. This game for the original Playstation was released in April 1999, also making it one of the few '90s Street Fighter games to have its original release rated on the site.

Critics loved pretty much every aspect of this game, from its hand-drawn graphics to its various extra game modes. While there are a few negative user reviews, plenty of users seemed to think this was either the best game in the Street Fighter series or the best 2-D fighting game they had ever played, at least at the time.
