Bradshaw's Avengers-overloaded cover the may be an indication of the direction of the event's final arc, especially when viewed in relation to last week's "No More Avengers" image teasing the second chapter of the event beginning with "Avengers vs. X-Men" #6. According to the solicitation information for "Avengers vs. X-Men" #10, the Avengers are cornered in their last stronghold as Hope Summers and the Scarlet Witch join forces. In December 2011, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso spoke to CBR about the payoff of "AvX" for long-term Marvel fans.
"If you're a long-term reader, you will be rewarded for reading stories that hearken back to 'House of M' and 'Messiah CompleX' -- heck, to the 'Death of Phoenix' story," Alonso told CBR. "If you're a new reader, or your memory is a bit hazy, we're taking great pains to make sure the story is easily accessible. Something horrible is heading towards Earth: a living comet that razes worlds and leaves something behind in its wake, and the world's greatest super teams take very different positions on how to deal with this problem -- positions that cut to the very core of who they are and what they stand for."
