While some fans mourn the loss of this Paper Girls' adaptation, others believe it didn't do the comic justice anyway.

Early in September 2022, Amazon Prime announced the cancellation of Paper Girls after its first season. The series – created by Stephany Folsom and inspired by Brian V. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang's comics – only lasted eight episodes before the terrible news of its cancellation reached the fandom. However, reactions about Paper Girls' cancellation have been mixed. While some fans mourn the loss of this adaptation, others believe it didn't do the comic justice anyway.

The fact is, the Paper Girls series is far from a loyal adaptation of the comics. This doesn't mean the series is bad. In fact, it gained many fans almost immediately. Unfortunately, it also disappointed many fans of the original comic. Whether it's due to a lack of complete arcs or simply interesting characters, Amazon failed to deliver a proper live-action adaptation.

10/10 Mac & KJ Have An Actual Love Story

On a first watch, it's obvious the Amazon Prime series tried to incorporate the friendship between Tiff, Mac, Erin, and KJ as the main topic. Unfortunately, it didn't come through, and the first eight episodes barely cemented the sentimental connection between the girls.

On the contrary, the comic uses their friendship as a narrative thread for readers to follow. As it's revealed in the last pages, their relationship is key to fixing the war and saving themselves. This is yet another thing from the comics fans would've loved to see in a second season.
